MESSAGE OF SOLIDARITY
The trade union movement was shocked to hear of the cowardly assassination of comrade Mauricio A. Redondo, a community and labor union leader affiliated with the USO. This assassination took place on January 17.
The WFTU believes that the violence against Colombian trade unionists, as well as the general increase in the violation of human rights in Colombia, demonstrates that the government of Colombia does not guarantee the safety and lives of union leaders.
The WFTU strongly condemns the cowardly assassination of comrade Mauricio A. Round and expresses its solidarity with his family as well as his fellow comrades in the USO.
The WFTU is urging the government of Colombia to assume political responsibility for these crimes and to punish the murderers and other perpetrators of anti-union violence.
