The Progressive Workers Organizing Committee and the Latin American Organization for Immigrant Rights are organizing a demonstration against U.S. Senator Ted Cruz at 3333 Allen Parkway in Houston on Saturday, December 7, at 2 pm. We plan a substantial, spirited, and smart protest on December 7, and we encourage the broadest possible participation. We will be protesting against the Tea Party Republican’s

· leading role in the recent federal government shutdown over the expansion of health care

· opposition to a path to legalization for eleven million undocumented immigrants

· scorn for women’s health care and reproductive freedom

· vote against the Senate bill to end employment discrimination against LGBT individuals, and opposition to marriage equality

· racially charged statements on former Senator Jesse Helms, President Barack Obama, “Nigerian email scammers,” and others

· denial of human-caused climate change and opposition to new environmental protections

· support for capital punishment based on the Book of Genesis, and

· dedication to unbridled capitalism in an era of massive unemployment, poverty, economic insecurity, and inequality.

The location for the protest is the public sidewalk adjacent to the Royalton at River Oaks, a large condominium building on the southern side of Allen Parkway, where Cruz resides. We will have a sound system, bullhorns, and signs. We will do some chanting and have some speakers. Together, we will send a loud, clear message that Ted Cruz does not speak for us—and that millions of people in Texas oppose his reactionary, bigoted politics.

Please let us know if you plan to attend on December 7, if you would like to endorse the demonstration, if you can bring additional signs, or if you would like more information. We hope to get a flyer out to everyone later this week, and we would appreciate you spreading the word.

In Solidarity,

Rona and David
