Caracas, 20 Mar. AVN.- Members of the Venezuelan opposition Ricardo Sanchez and Carlos Vargas joined on Thursday the signature-gathering national campaign in defense of peace and sovereignty of the country and to reject the executive order signed by President Barack Obama, which calls Venezuela an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the national security and foreign policy of the Unites States.
From downtown Caracas, parliamentarians signed their names on one of the notebooks used to collect signatures of any Venezuelan who defends the independence and self-determination of the people.
“Beyond political differences we have, we are sure of our love for Venezuela. Our parents taught us that love and and that’s why we can not allow an intervention,” Sanchez said.
The deputy added that “it is true that we have problems related to security in our country but it is not with the US marines at ports or terminals that we will solve this issue, so I join this campaign.”
He stressed that despite the difficulties people face concerning food supply in the country, “Venezuela can not allow a foreign invasion because the United States is not going to solve it, but rather to worsen it.”
Sanchez reiterated that political differences can be solved through elections “as it should be, but today we must unite for our country, and I called all the people to join this defense for sovereignty and self-determination.”
Parliamentarian stressed that at this historic moment people demand the union of all Venezuelans against Obama’s meddling decree.
For his part, Deputy Carlos Vargas urged the Venezuelan opposition to join the defense of the homeland. “Mr. President Nicolas Maduro, by taking a responsible position, we have come to tell Barack Obama and his government not to count on us for an invasion, murder of women and children in our country,” he said.
President Nicolas Maduro congratulated the members for their decision to sign the campaign for peace and national sovereignty “despite political differences, these two men are signing for national and patriotic unity.”
